I must confess, I am an iGirl....iPod, iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone, iMac, Mac Book Pro and addicted to apps. (Is there an app for that???) I can run my business from my iPhone and iPad. I can create client quotes, send pricing information, accept credit card payments, right in the palm of my hand.
These electronic gadgets are great business tools, but what happens when you make an idol out of them? Leave the house without my trusty iPhone???? NEVER!!! Why I might get a call or email from that all-important client who must have me as a photographer for their wedding or other special occasion in their lives and will order 10 of everything! I can't take a chance I will miss that, or that, Heaven forbid, they have to leave a message.
Lately, there have been a few times when I absentmindedly left my iPhone on my coffee table and rushed out the front door without it. (I can hear the gasps in the audience) As I drove away, my bluetooth headset bellowed "Phone is disconnected". I was already running late, so I kept on driving. Do you know what happened? Absolutely nothing! The world did not end. No one called. 95% of the emails I received in my absence were junk mail!
Sure, I use the Bible app on my iPad everyday. I listen to the Bible each night on my iPhone. These items are the first things I grab in the morning. I wake up surrounded by "iStuff". There is nothing inherently wrong with technology or gadgets, but when they steal our time and attention away from the Lord, they become idols. I have made an idol out of Angry Birds, Scrabble, The Game of Life, Hulu, and many others too numerous to mention.
Lord, forgive me for putting my iStuff before you, for allowing them to steal precious time I cannot regain. What will these gadgets matter in eternity? They won't...they add very little value to my spiritual life in the long run. Help me, Lord to have balance in my life. I want to give You those moments. I need to grab You first thing in the morning, before I begin my day. I choose not to make an idol out of my iStuff any longer. I choose not to make an idol of people, places or things.
Thank You, Lord for Your mercy and grace, which are new every morning.
I love you,
Pamela
Lordy! Isn't it always too much of a good thing can get the better of us? Thank God someone had the wherewithall to create apps for the Word!
