Day 19 - Whom Will You Serve?

Today Scarlett asked a question "Since when did the person behind the camera become more important than the person in front of the camera"? What we do is not about us, it is about the people who hire us to document the most important moments of their lives. This concept applies not only to photographers, but any service business. If you are a receptionist, you are there to greet clients either on the phone or in person. Say you are having a bad day, spilled your coffee in your car, got stuck in a traffic jam and barely made it to work on time. When that first client comes in, will you allow your bad mood to spew onto the person standing before you, or will you choose to be a true servant and greet them with a smile and a warm 'hello'?

When we hear the word servant, it can bring images of someone dressed in a black and white uniform bringing us dinner or think of a slave. Our society does not embrace the concept of servanthood. But, as believers, we know that Jesus Christ Himself was the greatest Servant of all time. Matthew 20:27-29 and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” If Jesus, the Son of God, can humble Himself to come to earth and die for my sins and be a Servant, who am I to not follow His example?

Whether you own your business, or you work for someone else in a service-based business, remember that you are not in that position to be served, but to serve others. It takes so little time and effort to be kind, helpful, and to give your clients more than they expect.

My business Scripture is Colossians 3:23-24: Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. I try to remember that ultimately, in all I do, I am serving Jesus. When I upgrade the size of a client's album at no extra charge, I am serving Jesus. When I wait patiently until the flower girl stops crying to snap a photograph, I am serving Jesus. When I pin a boutineer, wait for uncle Joe to take his snapshot, or speak calmly at a nervous bride, I am serving Jesus. Who will you serve this day?

 I love you, Lord
Pamela
