Day 14 - Back That Thang Up!

How many times have you sat at your computer only to get an error message or worse, the darn thing won't even boot up? It happens to all computer users at some point. Heck, I have a degree as a computer specialist and in information technology and management, yet that does not preclude me from having technical difficulties occasionally. I have even deleted files I needed from time to time and forgotten to back up files in a timely manner. I now use cloud storage, a 2TB Seagare GoFlex drive that allows access to files over the internet, a 1TB drive used for backup and burn all my work onto CD/DVD.

As a professional photographer, I am capturing moments in people's lives that cannot be done over. I am capturing personal images from my own life that are precious to me. I also have client information, contracts, print orders, and personally identifiable information that I am responsible to keep safe. No matter what line of work you are in, if you use a computer, back up your work. Don't wait until tomorrow, do it now.

I like to keep my desktop clean and free of clutter. There is not too much that is more frustrating to me than trying to find a document or file on a cluttered desktop. Recently, in an effort to organize my photographs from wedding, I began placing the photos in folders such as Pre-Ceremony, Ceremony, Formal Portraits, Reception, etc. This simple act made finding certain images much easier. When you are dealing with 700-1200 images from two photographers, this form of organization keeps me sane.

Are there times I have been so frustrated with my computer that I collapsed in a crumpled heap and cried out to my Lord, Jesus, HELP ME? Yes, and He was faithful to help me and direct me to where I could get help. Lord, thank You for technology and wisdom for the best way to handle it. Thank You for Your faithfulness to me. Thanks You for your wisdom, mercy and grace.
